Developed
during the 1800s, Ba Gua (also written Pa Kua and
Paqua), is the only martial art purely of Taoist origin.
Developed from meditative practices where sect members
chanted while walking a circle. It became the primer
body-guard art during the waring days of the last
Chinese dynasty. The formal name, Ba Gua Zhang,
translates as "Eight Trigram Palm" (Trigram: one of the
eight trigrams of the Book of Changes/ Palm: a term for
martial art). Ba Gua has a wide range of practice
methods. In the below photo in Beijing are shown
practicing the two-man drills of the art.
